Gentoo on the TF201 (Transformer Prime)

Maybe you think:
“Uh, ah! A tablet. ARM. Compiling Gentoo directly on this device?!
That takes ages!”

Nah. Goes like butter 🙂

4 cores, 2GHz, piece of cake.
That’s progress.
I’ve got the same CPU power in this little sweet net book as I have in my big tower build host in the cellar… >.>

EDIT:
And now you can also walk around naked in front of the TF201’s webcam, because now it’s running a GNU/Linux 😉

    1. Here you can find the kernel sources I used ( Its Jens Andersen’s port ):
      https://github.com/EnJens/kernel_tf201_stock

You just build a boot.img with the android boot tools and after updating the boot loader with the one from Jens you can easily use fastboot in order to boot from RAM.

Unfortunately I bite my teeth out trying to port u-boot to TF201… So dual boot won’t be possible.
I’m using a Gentoo Rootfs in internal NAND.
I bootstrapped it from an SD card which I booted with the following kernel image: http://ftp.o2s.ch/tf201/boot.img.sdcard
Beware that I had to disable fbcon because the allocation of certain distro versions make the kernel oops.

  2. How did u do this? Did you get all the devices and drivers working correctly? Do u run it off an sdcard or do u have linux installed on the Nand? I’ve been trying to figure out how to run native linux on my TF201 for ages now… if you can point me in the right direction of how to do it TT wouldvbe awesome…

  3. Hello 🙂

I am an owner of a TF201, and I’d like to replace the Android system with Gentoo on it…
And I’ve seen that you’ve installed Gentoo on the internal SD…
Any way you can help me please with the installation?
Didn’t really understand the guidelines on Gentoo’s wiki…

    Thanks a lot 😀
