{"id":539,"date":"2012-11-27T20:53:47","date_gmt":"2012-11-27T18:53:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.the-leviathan.ch\/?p=539"},"modified":"2012-11-27T20:53:47","modified_gmt":"2012-11-27T18:53:47","slug":"spinning-is-so-much-cooler-than-not-spinning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.the-leviathan.ch\/?p=539","title":{"rendered":"Spinning is so much cooler than not spinning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since I&#8217;m already thinking about some new tinkering projects for the post<br \/>\nRepRap era I stumbled upon the following nice <a href=\"http:\/\/ftp.o2s.ch\/foo_random\/ArtificialGravity.pdf\">experiment<\/a>.<br \/>\nSince the linearization of Einstein&#8217;s space-time-metrics depends on the assumption that the distortions are quite small,<br \/>\nthere went up criticism from certain members from the CCC, like Raoul, that such equations could never be used in order<br \/>\nto describe something as a rotating niobium ring (Like in this experiment).<br \/>\nThe measurements taken seem to support Raoul&#8217;s argumentation.<br \/>\nBeing a factor 20 off the calculations shows us wonderfully that assuming a non-linear system to be linear<br \/>\nonly works when the numbers you&#8217;re crunching aren&#8217;t that big, otherwise you miss some values&#8230;<br \/>\nBut remarkably: The measured values were 20 times <strong>bigger<\/strong> then predicted, which means,<br \/>\nthat you can actually get more power out of the system then you&#8217;d expected.<br \/>\nWhich means, these measurements mean: The idea of antigravity isn&#8217;t as brain damaged as some may think&#8230;<br \/>\nOnly: the problem is now the same as it is with the electric rockets&#8230;<br \/>\nWhat&#8217;s moving an electron within an B-field, it&#8217;s the Lorentz force, but this one is damn weak.<br \/>\nAnd also the Lorentz force doesn&#8217;t actually move an electron into an opposite direction,<br \/>\nit usually just pushes it a little in it&#8217;s already existing trajectory&#8230;<br \/>\nSame for the gravito magnetic Lorentz force.<br \/>\nSeems as the laws of physics will still stay a bitch for a while.<br \/>\nBut the experiment is still a cool idea, or as General Hammond would say: &#8220;Spinning is so much cooler than not spinning&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g9XrrEaZ7Y4?feature=player_detailpage\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since I&#8217;m already thinking about some new tinkering projects for the post RepRap era I stumbled upon the following nice experiment.
